UPDATES:
2/07/2020 - Well it happened. After 2.5 years of working flawlessly, Google has changed their search pages in a way that makes it much more difficult to get images. I’ve immediately updated the crawler so that it will still get images. Woohoo! Still working
2/12/2020 - Users have informed me the images aren’t as large as they used to be. (They’re still a reasonable size for language learning - 100px~). The accuracy is still the same level. I’m investigating other extreme measures of rewriting the crawler backend. I’ll update here as well as directly to those who emailed me when I have something.

2/17/2020 - Confirmed add-on works through the latest version of Anki (2.1.20). It hasn’t broken on any updates thus far, so please assume it will work with the latest version of Anki. If there is some issue, I will push out an update immediately.
10/24/2022 - The add-on has been made simpler to install! If you run into permission issues like “OSError: [Errno 30] Read-only file system: ‘image-errors-dump.json’”, this is an Anki issue. Please refer to the official docs. . Or send me an email at ankiimage@gmail.com for the latest version to get fix this for this add-on.

I havent had to update the add-on code here since 2018 since it’s been so stable given how the code has been written. That’s honestly something to be proud of given how often most other add-ons break. Some things are worth a few bucks. A stable add-on that helps you remember things with images, that saves you tons of time has been worth it to the people

This add-on has been extremely useful to me and has saved me so much time. Although it’s unusual in the sense that it costs money, I think this is reasonable since the service does cost money to maintain and developers are still humans who sacrifice their time and effort to create excellent services that I don’t think we should always just take for granted.

I’ve just bought it and I’ve only tried it with few cards, it works perfect. Just to think that I can do this automatically it’s like a dream. To set it up is easy compare to other add-ons.

It gets the job done and works well most of the time with little intervention. A handful of the images can be a bit random since its just taking them from an image search, but for language learning, a couple unexpected results make words more memorable anyways. Also, when I had some trouble installing it, the creator was really helpful in helping me.

The installation is manual (though installation is as easy as dropping the folder in the add-ins location, opening a text file to change your target language and add your email). The images are surprisingly relevant to your cards (not perfect of course) and you do have to fiddle with a bit of code to get it going, but I love it! Great tool and it helped me to learn how the card fields and card types in anki really work (took a tad bit of time) because you need to give all your cards a field named “Expressions” (which I just converted the backs of many of my existing cards to pretty easily).

Useful, but paid. I found myself doing pictures with this and half of them don’t match phrase so I search for pictures on wikihow website (picture-name site:wikihow.com)

It works very nicely and is a very fast way to add some images to words. Only a few downloaded images will show as empty or won’t have an image; this doesn’t happen often.
I used this addon for when I had just added big shared decks without images. Almost all of the images will be relevant. However in some specific cases it’s best to add your own image.
