Add tooltips to your flashcards with Tippy.js View project on GitHub
Shortcut : Ctrl+T (modifiable)
Selected text gets wrapped with a tooltip, which you can edit right away. If no text is selected, a clickable bubble (💬) is inserted at the caret position.
Editing
Click on a tooltip anchor to open the tooltip editor. Edit the content to your heart’s content. To accept, hit Alt+Enter or click outside the tooltip. To delete a tooltip, hit the red cross mark or accept it when it’s empty.
Please note: To see the tooltips during review, you need to activate the Tooltip script and CSS for your notetype via Manage Notetypes > Tooltips…

A quintissential Anki addon. As mentioned, the button/hotkey method is currently broken, as is the preview editor (which spits out Anki errors, and does other strange behaviors).
Hopefully, this will get resolved soon!

Nice add-on!
There is one problem though…I’m on the latest version of Anki (2.1.65), and It seems like the tooltips can’t be added through button or hotkey, so I have to resort to html instead.

Not sure where to submit bug reports:
if you remove an existing tooltip in editor (via the red x-button on the tooltip) from a word that had text formatting applied to it, the HTML tags will be inserted into the note, eg <b>tooltip</b> Comment from author Thanks for the report! There’s a forum topic for official support, which you can access with “Contact Author” (top right of the page).
I’m planning to update the add-on to support HTML formatting soon. I’ll probably find the cause of this

You know what, I’ll say it, this must be my most lowkey power tool in terms of reviewing for the boards. - the board in itself is not just memorizing facts, its also analyzing the question and its structure. sometimes the questions are phrased in such a way that it’s difficult to identify what they’re actually asking. this tool allows practice exactly that- analyzing questions and take note of their structure during the review. kudos to the author. I hope you continue sharing your tools with us
