An add-on that allows you to add Forvo.com pronunciations to your anki cards - fully automatically
Usage When you add or edit a card, you will notice the blue Forvo button in the editor window. If you click that, anki-forvo-dl will ask you to select some fields and a language if not done already. Afterwards, you will be presented with a dialog window that shows you a list of all available pronunciations. If you click on the play button on the left of a pronunciation, you can listen to the audio. To select a pronunciation, click the checkmark icon.
You can also hold down the shift key when pressing the blue Forvo button in the editor to automatically select the pronunciation with the most votes. Other shortcuts:
ctrl + F: Open forvo window ctrl + shift + F: Add top pronunciation
Field selection When adding audio to a card with a note type for the first time, anki-forvo-dl will ask you to select two fields: The search field, whose contents will be used to search on Forvo and the audio field, where the audio string will be placed in ([audio:XYZ.mp3]). By default, anki-forvo-dl will append the audio string to the existing contents of the audio field. If you want to change that, see the “Editing the config” section.
Language selection When adding audio to a card that’s part of a deck that isn’t known by anki-forvo-dl, it will ask you to select the deck’s language so that only relevant pronunciations will be available as results. You can either type in the language in English and hit enter or select it from the list you will be presented with. If you want to change the language later, see the “Editing the config” section
Editing the config As of the newest version, there’s a config manager! Just click on Tools>anki-forvo-dl>Preferences to open it. For deck-specific or note type-specific settings select your deck / note type first and adjust the settings to your liking.
Liability I am not liable for the plugin to work as described or for the actual download process. This plugin retrieves the audio files as if you would click on the audio preview button on Forvo, which falls under web scraping. Forvo doesn’t mention web scraping in their Terms of Service so I believe that this is allowed, since it’s as if you’d go there manually, just automated. Thank you! This makes my life easy!!!!!!!! No issues. Running 2.1.49 on Mac.
Sometimes it downloads mp3s, sometimes ogg files. ogg is not supported on iPhone. There;s an option to hide ogg recordings in the add-on preferences. But, if you want to use the ogg files on your iPhone, like me, there’s a solution!

Very good when it works. For me it’s inconsistent. At times it works and then it doesn’t.
I activated the debug mode to try to understand why that is. I also posted and searched on the github issue section. On an “Issue thread” there the conclusion a guy who has the same issue as me was: VPN. His vpn was the root of the problem.
In my case I have no VPN to blame. It just stops working for apparently no reason (or a reason I still could not determine). There was this one time when it was workin

It’s great when it works. Nice and easy interface. Note: when this one goes down, ‘Simple Forvo Audio Downloader’ still works as a backup.

It’s working! Really great. The Simple Forvo add-on still has a couple features that I use on occasion, but this one is more polished overall. All it’s missing is batch processing, but that’s intentional apparently

Make downloading pronunciation more easily. I combine it with Quicker (https://getquicker.net/) to make it possible that search the pronunciation of selected word in one stroke rather than copy, invoke addon, paste, and enter. Not working for me since the latest update. I’m on Windows 8.1 Pro x64 using Version 2.1.49. Is there any way to downgrade or download a previous version ? the github page doesn’t have repositories.

Manually adding Card by Card, this is the most convenient and well displayed GUI for different audio. However, this could be improved by a lot by allowing bulk audio adding. I’d like an option in config to have a preferred user to choose from because I know a specific user has lots of audio and is known for having really good standard accent, which is really good for consistency. If such a user does not exist for a word, prioritize reviews, If i don’t like audio its much easier to fix the odd wo

really good but it after a while some sounds stop working and now it stopped working overall (meaning I cannot even add sound anymore it always says “couldn’t find sound” when I checked and I know for a fact that forgo does have the sound). I don’t know how to fix this

(Works for me on Anki 24.04.1) Even though bulk-add is removed, this is a very useful plugin.
- Love the feature richness and the user friendliness of the pop-ups.
- Love the preferences menu with “global” settings.
- Don’t love that the Preferences menu is wider than my screen. Anki’s UI convention seems to be vertical scroll with groups of preferences.

Someone posted a fix for the last broken version July 2024 in the official repository (see details here https://github.com/realmayus/anki_forvo_dl/pull/114). I downloaded and bundled it to a working version, but you have to install it manually until they release a new version of the addon integrating the fix.
