AskAnki adds a sidebar to your Anki reviewer that lets you ask an AI about the flashcard you’re currently studying. It sends the text and images from your card to the AI, giving it the full context to answer your questions.
❗ Important: API Key Required
This add-on will not work without a Google AI API key. This is a free key that connects the add-on to the AI model.
How to Get Your Free API Key Go to the Google AI Studio website. Click the button that says Create API key. A pop-up will appear. Click Create API key in new project. Your key will be generated. Click the copy icon next to it to copy it to your clipboard. The first time you open the AskAnki sidebar, it will prompt you to paste this key. How to Use AskAnki
- Open the Sidebar
You can open the AskAnki sidebar in two ways while reviewing cards:
Keyboard Shortcut: Windows/Linux: Ctrl + Alt + A Mac: Command + Option + A Mouse: Select the More button in the bottom right of the card. Click Ask from the context menu that appears.
The sidebar will appear on the right side of your Anki window.
- Ask Your Question
Once the sidebar is open:
Type your question about the current card into the input box at the bottom. Press the Send button (clicking the Enter key will not work). The AI’s answer will appear in the chat window. 3. Moving to the Next Card
When you move to the next card (by answering the current one), the AskAnki sidebar will automatically close and reset itself for the next card. Existing AskAnki or Anki at any point will also reset it.
