If you want to connect to AnkiWeb while working from a Network which serves their own SSL certificates which are not trusted by Anki libary you can install this addon.
Be aware, that the network administrator can access your encrypted data and therefore the connection is potentially unsafe, so dont install it unless you trust the network provider.

Works great! For posterity: create a folder (perhaps “disable_ssl”) under %APPDATA%\Anki2\addons21. AKA it it should be %APPDATA%\Anki2\addons21\disable_ssl_init_.py.

I still can’t connect to ankiweb, even after installing this add-on. My proxies are set correctly, and I can acess ankiweb using old versions of Anki, but not the newer versions. I don’t even see any meaningful messages in strace, even with strace -f. I just see a bunch of “futex resumed … ETIMEDOUT. This is on Ubuntu 16.04, so I wonder if anki knows where to find the CA certs?
