How it works
The addon creates a filtered deck called [Your Deck]::Micro-Batch that pulls exactly 10 cards from your main deck.
Press Ctrl+M (customizable in config) and the addon will:
Create/rebuild the micro-batch deck with 10 fresh cards Prioritize due cards first, then new cards Start your review session immediately
Every time you press Ctrl+M: The deck rebuilds with 10 fresh cards (just like clicking Anki’s “Rebuild” button). This provides consistent, predictable behavior.
Key feature: Cards only leave the batch when they graduate. If you hit “Again,” the card stays in the batch for this session. This means you might see the same card 2-3 times in one micro-batch, which is actually helpful for initial learning.
Why this may work for you (Psychologically)
Concrete finish line: You can see the light at the end of the tunnel Frequent wins: Every batch completion is a dopamine hit Lower activation energy: Starting “just 10 cards” is much easier than starting “your reviews.” Momentum building: After finishing one batch, you’re already in study mode—might as well do another
The Tradeoff (And why it’s worth it)
Yes, you’re sacrificing optimal spacing within each 10-card batch. If Anki wants you to wait 10 minutes before seeing a card again, you might see it in 2 minutes instead.
But here’s the thing: a suboptimal review is infinitely better than no review.
The spacing algorithm is optimized for retention, not for completion. If perfect spacing leads to procrastination paralysis, you retain 0% of 0 cards. I’ll take 85% retention of 300 cards over 95% retention of 0 cards any day.
For Advanced Users
Want more control? This addon is essentially a convenience wrapper around Anki’s built-in filtered decks. If you’re comfortable with Anki’s filtered deck features, you can achieve similar results (and customize it further) using the built-in tools. See Anki’s Filtered Deck documentation for details. This addon is designed for users who want one-button convenience for a specific micro-batching workflow.
Configuration
Create a config.json file to customize:
json{ “batchSize”: 10, “deckSuffix”: “Micro-Batch”, “shortcut”: “Ctrl+M” }
Desktop only - Addons don’t run on mobile, but you can study the micro-batch deck on AnkiMobile/AnkiDroid and rebuild it on desktop when needed.

thanks! love this addon!
i do the filtered deck functionality always but it’s just too many clicks and i get lazy sometimes. It’s also cumbersome sometimes to always fill out the name of the deck, i love that it just goes into the subdeck. this is perfect, especially with my adhd!
