My popular add-on, now updated for Anki 2.1 (old version here: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1810271825) Yes, I know this has already been ported by a third party. But there is a actually a small tweak to the v2 scheduler in Anki 2.1 that I am adding. Plus, I wrote the first version and I like to keep my add-ons together.
v2 scheduler change: I think all learning reviews should come before new cards. Even though Anki 2.1 scheduler v2 does include an option to move the day learning cards ahead of learned cards, it still puts them after the new cards. I fixed that, but I don’t use v2 so you will be my test subjects.
Compatibility issues Any add-on that overwrites _getCard from sched.py and schedv2.py. Any other add-on that does this will clash with mine.

Original description (from my Anki 2.0 add-on) By default, Anki brings up your daily cards in this order:
- learning cards that are due
- (optional) new cards if your preferences are set to have them first
- review cards
- “day learning” cards, which are cards in the learning queue that crossed from one day to the next without graduating to the review queue.
- (optional) new cards if your preferences put them last
I didn’t like this, so I changed it. The new order is as follows, with the change in bold:
- learning cards that are due
- “day learning cards”
- (optional) new cards if your preferences are set to have them first
- review cards
- (optional) new cards if your preferences put them last
New v2 changes Anki 2.1 scheduler v2 has the option to bring up your daily cards in this order:
- learning cards that are due
- (optional) new cards if your preferences are set to have them first
- “day learning” cards
- review cards
- (optional) new cards if your preferences put them last
I have changed it so the option now sets the order:
- learning cards that are due
- “day learning” cards
- (optional) new cards if your preferences are set to have them first
- review cards
- (optional) new cards if your preferences put them last

Just like someone else said, make sure to check off “show learning cards with larger steps before reviews” in your scheduling preferences to make the add-on work. Amazing!!

this is perfect! before using this, i did all my new cards first, followed by reviews, and last i did my previous days lapsed cards. this switched it so now i do my lapsed first, then my new, followed by my review. at first i wasnt sure because i had my mind set on doing my new cards first while i was fresh.. but after a few days this is def much better! i need to be spending extra time reviewing my lapsed cards while im fresh and ready to put in a little extra leg work. next i work thru my new

Could you make a setting that makes new cards first if you have it in preferences? So it would go like this:
-
(optional) new cards if your preferences are set to have them first
-
“day learning” cards
-
learning cards that are due
-
review cards
-
(optional) new cards if your preferences put them last

Does this not work on mobile phone, iphone?

I still don’t think the description is clear enough however; to make this add-on work, you need to select “show learning cards with larger steps before reviews” in preferences AFTER enabling the Anki 2.1 scheduler. Author needs to be more conscientious about clarity.
