Functionality:
This addon automatically flips back to the front side of a card if you rate “Again”, hiding the answer and forcing you to recall it again from memory. It will do this until you pass the card. This addon doesn’t impact the review history of the card (it only leaves one “Again”).
The purpose of this addon is to enforce the following recall method (sort of like by simulating 0 s learning steps) and keep you honest such that you don’t accidentally move on after rating a card “Again” without actually being able to recall the answer at that point in time.
In my 🍒 3 Rules of Card Creation guide, I also wrote about 🍒 The Most Amazing Recall Method:
There’s an important rule you should follow while reviewing cards, which is especially applicable to longer, more challenging cards:
If you weren’t able to remember the answer to a card, instead of rating “again” immediately, first quickly attempt to recall the answer from memory again.
If you fail, attempt again and again until you can fully recall the answer. Then rate “again”.
It’s important to follow this rule: just because you can see the answer on the back of the card doesn’t mean you can recall the answer at that same point in time (which the FSRS algorithm assumes you could after every review). If you couldn’t recall it even right after seeing the answer, then how can you recall it after an even longer time interval has passed?
As long as you have met the prerequisites for understanding and being able to “know” the answer (as in it’s not like you currently have no way of understanding what the card is even talking about), this should take at most a few passes- even for the most challenging cards. You’d be surprised, the testing effect is extraordinarily effective.
Toggle:
While this recall method is very important to follow when reviewing longer/more challenging/more complex cards, the extra time spent flipping through the cards may not be very necessary or worth it for cards that are very short and simple (such as vocabulary). That’s why there’s an accessible toggle button for this addon in the Tools bar so that you can easily toggle it on specifically when studying decks for the more complex & abstract subjects, and toggle it off when studying decks for the simpler & easier subjects.

This add-on (along with using type in the blank note types) have completely transformed my anki experience in terms of improving retention. Efficiency with premade decks has gone through the rough with this add-on. Comment from author that’s amazing

I suspect this add on will single-handedly transform my studying. I was looking for something that improves encoding same day, beyond the normal learning steps. This is it. Thank you so much! Comment from author hopefully it lives up to your expectations :)

This is a fantastic plugin! I think it would be even better if you could add a keyboard shortcut to control the plugin’s on/off state. Currently, when I see cards that need to be memorized repeatedly, I have to take my hand off the keyboard and then use the mouse to open the plugin, which is a bit cumbersome.

I love how you develop add-ons that really attack the heart of spaced repetition and the importance of building a learned foundation first and foremost! Comment from author haha thank you

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to have an option for it to activate on pre-configured tags? Comment from author that’s actually a really good idea! at least rn I don’t think I’m gonna spend the time to figure it out how to implement it tho sorry 😭

Very cool add-on! Thanks!
EDIT: I was encountering the following bug
- Rate a card (e.g., “Good”)
- Fail the next card = rate it “Again” -> the add-on will show the same card again
- Now, press Ctrl+Z to undo
- Anki will bring you back to card at step 1, rate it again (e.g., “Good”) -> expected result: “Good” is added to the revlog; -> actual result: “Again” (from step 2) is added instead
I’m not sure if this is the optimal solution, but adding the following code to the add-on seems to hav

this is actually genius. Excellent add-on. You’re my favorite Anki shared deck creator, so I’m not surprised your add-ons are incredible as well. Thanks! Comment from author wow thx 🤭

I’ve used it a couple days now, I love it. I used to this the old fashioned way in my head but now this automatically makes me recall the card and get it right before moving on. Comment from author Yay I’m glad you like it! 😄
I used to do this by using Ctrl-Z or also by doing it in my head (maybe while looking away), then rating Again (obviously since I didn’t get it the first time). But the problem is that now when using this addon I still sorta have the habit of rating Again after retesting

edit: Ah I see, I didn’t know the keys worked without the buttons. Thanks! —— Hi I’m add-ons developer Shigeඞ this add-on is very nice! 👍️ However is there an infinite loop problem unless (1, “Pass”) is set to 2 or 3? Pressing “Pass” does not advance to the next card, the current code has both Again and Pass as 1 so it looks to me like they are both the same button. But the other comment says it already works, and it should work on your device too, so this problem may just be on my device. Comme
