Anki ID Copy & Compare
TLDR: This add-on lets you easily copy Anki Note IDs as a search string and compare your cards with a friend’s list to quickly find any notes you’re missing. Perfect for students using shared decks!
Why use this add-on?
This add-on shines brightest in situations where you and your friends/colleagues are using the same core deck, but want to ensure you’re learning similar or specific cards. For example, as a medical student working with large shared decks, you can easily compare your card collection with a study partner’s to verify you’re covering the same material or to pinpoint cards they’ve added that you might want.
Manually comparing large sets of Note IDs is time-consuming and error-prone. This add-on automates the process, making it incredibly efficient to:
Share precise card selections. Identify and import missing cards from collaborators. Keep your Anki collection aligned with study groups. Key Features:
- Copy Note IDs as Search String: Select one or more notes in the Anki Browser. Right-click on the selection and choose “Copy Note IDs as Search String” from the context menu. This copies a formatted search query (e.g., nid:123456789 OR nid:987654321) to your clipboard. Use Case: Easily share specific sets of cards with friends, save complex note selections for future reference, or use them directly in Anki’s search bar.
- Compare Note IDs with Friend: Right-click anywhere in the Anki Browser and select “Compare Note IDs with Friend” from the context menu. A dedicated dialog box will appear, featuring two input fields: Your Note IDs (left side): If you have notes currently selected in the browser when you open the dialog, their IDs will be automatically pre-filled here. You can also paste your own copied Note ID strings. Friend’s Note IDs (right side): Paste the Note ID search string provided by your friend into this field. Click the “Compare” button. The add-on will then automatically perform a comparison and display only the notes that are present in your friend’s list but are missing from your collection directly in the Anki Browser. Use Case: Ideal for medical students (or any students) collaborating on pre-made decks (e.g., Ankizin, Ankiphil). Quickly identify which lecture-specific cards your study partner has added to their main deck that you don’t yet possess, streamlining the synchronization of your study materials.

I have suspended some cards from my deck yesterday by accident and wanted to unsuspend them today. So, I had the idea to switch to an old backup, copy the ids of the cards that were unsuspended and unsuspend them in the current collection. I had to tweak the code a bit to copy the cards IDs instead of the notes IDs but it worked! Thank you for the add-on!
